UPDATES

I've been quite behind in sending out the newsletter (yes, I know--you've been disappointed by not receiving MORE e-mail into your inbox), but I wanted to wait until I had actual, you know, news.

So, besides the 20% off sale, beginning today and running through October (see right), here's what else has been going on:

I've expanded the Iowa History section, Mysteries, Science Fiction, Classics, added sections of nautical, aviation, French History, German History, Middle Ages/Renaiisance, and others I am probably forgetting, moved American History and Military History (making them more accessible), and filled the Judaica, Music, and Philosophy cases. I've added thousands of books in every other genre. So, that's quite a bit. It's more organized, and I will continue to organize futher in the next few months. If you haven't been in the store in awhile, there's quite a bit to look forward to.

THANK YOU TO THE IOWA BIBLIOPHILES!

Defunct Books recently had the honor of hosting the October meeting of the Iowa Bibliophiles, a group dedicated to the enjoyment of books and engaging discussions of books and book collecting. If you want to find out more about the group, check out their website HERE. If you are a member of the Iowa Bibliophiles, be sure to come in and introduce yourself.

NEW ARRIVALS!

The arrivals are coming fast and furious. I have either just shelved or am in the process of shelving collections related to:
  • a great selection of art books, in English, French, and German
  • upper-level computer science
  • tons of cookbooks
  • books on poker strategy
  • more Judaica and books related to Catholicism
  • Jazz books
  • a nice selection of Iowa and Iowa City history

THIS MONTH'S NEWS

FALL SALE!!!
20% off everything in the store through the end of October. That gives you precious little time to enjoy the savings. Shop now.

NEW WEBSITE COMING

I can't give you details yet (on advice of my political advisors), but I can tell you to look forward to a brand new website in place before the holiday season. Specifics are coming, and I'll let you guys know first.

MORE READING INFO!

Dan Troxell, who read at our Grand Opening soiree, hosts readings at Zanzibar's Coffeehouse in Des Moines. He also sends out an e-mail newsletter with info on literary goings on in Iowa. It's definitely worth reading. If you'd like to read the most recent newsletter, send me an e-mail and I will forward it to you. If you'd like to sign up for the newsletter (an even better option), send an e-mail to that effect to dan_troxell@yahoo.com. Tell him I sent ya'. But seriously, sign up. It's a fun read.

WE BUY AND TRADE!

Just as a reminder, we buy books here at Defunct Books, and we also take in books on trade (we can, of course, give better rates on trade, but feel free to ask for details). So, if you want to take advantage of the sale but don't have a wad of cash lying around on the coffee table (though it's ok if you do), feel free to bring in books on trade. We offer store credit, which will allow you to take advantage of the 20% sale, making your books worth even more!

FORWARD THIS NEWSLETTER!

If you know someone who might enjoy receiving this newsletter on a once-a-month or thereabouts basis, feel free to forward it to them. Some days we enjoy being Iowa City's best kept secret, but there are times when we would actually prefer that people know about us. And if someone you know actually did just forward this newsletter to you, you can sign up to receive it yourself by simply sending an e-mail to: info@defunctbooks.com stating you'd like your very own copy

If you don't see this newsletter in its full visual glory (colors, columns, etc.), that means you don't have your e-mail set to read as HTML. You really should make that change (it's part of your e-mail settings probably), as the newsletter really does look fabulous.

If you do not wish to receive further e-mails or newsletters from Defunct Books, please send us an
e-mail with UNSUBSCRIBE in the subject line or text.
